It is recommended that you have a copy of the current title to ensure you know the information it contains. Order a copy of the title for a fee before starting the application.
To file a Change of Name on Title application, you will be asked for the following information:
1.1 | Parcel Identifier (PID). You can find the PID by searching the property’s address on BC Assessment. It is also shown in the “Property Location & Description” section of your Property Assessment Notice. It is also on the title for the property. |
1.2 | Name and Occupation of the Owner Exactly as Listed on Title. The application will ask for the existing owner name as it appears on title. You will need to include this existing name in the application before you can change to the name. |
1.3 | New Owner Name. The new name will replace what is currently on title once the application is registered. You must include original legal documents supporting the name change in the form of certificates issued by the appropriate government authority or statutory declarations explaining any discrepancies. If your name has changed more than once, you’ll need to provide supporting documents for every time that your name has changed. See examples of how names must be linked from the existing name on title to the desired new name on the Change Name on Title page on ltsa.ca. |
1.4 | Original Certificates and Documents. The Land Title Act requires you to have possession of the original certificate or court certified documents. If you submit online, you will prepare a scan of the original certificate or document and certify under the Land Title Act that you have possession of the original. If you submit my mail or in person, you will need to submit the original documents. Certificates that are stamped “copy” will not be accepted. See a list of the certificates and documents that LTSA will accept on the Change Name on Title page on ltsa.ca. |
1.5 | Permission of the Owner if Filing on Behalf of Someone. If you are applying on behalf of a family member, spouse or other owner on title, you are acting as an agent and must have the permission of that person. |
1.6 | BC Services Card app for online submission. The BC Services Card app is used to verify the identity of the applicant and to sign the online application. The applicant may be the person requesting the name change or someone acting on their behalf. Learn how to log in with the BC Services Card app. If you don’t have the BC Services Card app on your mobile device, you need to set it up first. |
If there is more than one owner on title wishing to change their name on the same application, contact LTSA Customer Service Centre at 1-877-577-LTSA (5872).
