Associated Plans Guidance

Last modified on

Introduction

Generally, Associated Plans are plans associated to the parcel that is the subject of the plan, and whose PID is noted on the plan’s related Application to Deposit Plan form. The creation of a new parcel results in an effective reset of the Associated Plans. For Example, a posting plan or a charge plan which when registered references the PID of a parcel will show up as an associated plan to that parcel. When the parcel is subdivided and new parcels are created with new PIDs then the associated plans that were on the parent parcel are not typically carried forward to the new parcel created.

For the initial implementation of Associated Plans in 2013, land title register data was searched to identify plans to be added as an Associated Plan, such as charge plans referenced in a charge’s “charge remarks” on title, and plans noted in the “Miscellaneous Notes”. This may have included plans where the parent parcel (A “parent” parcel comprises a parcel of land the current parcel originated from) was the subject of the plan. Post implementation of the Associated Plan functionality, plans associated with a parent parcel are not captured as an Associated Plan of the new parcel. The “Expanded Unsubdivided Short Legal Description” search was intended to provide the broader search for Associated Plans.

LTSA Plan Search for Associated Plans

This Plan Search function will locate the parcel’s Associated Plans by entering a short legal description as the search criteria.

There are three types of search by short legal description:

  • Subdivided which will find Associated Plans for subdivided parcels
  • Unsubdivided which will find Associated Plans for unsubdivided parcels (also known as “primary” parcels)
  • Expanded Unsubdivided Unsubdivided which will find Associated Plans for specified unsubdivided parcels together with Associated Plans for plans for parcels that have been subdivided out of the primary

In order to choose the appropriate type of search, you must know whether the parcel that you are interested in is categorized as subdivided or unsubdivided within the land title register. Learn more.

  2. Additional search steps are required to determine plans that are associated with the parent parcel. Using the above example, Lot 10, Plan BCP10129 is the parent parcel of Lots 1 and 2, Plan EPP138124 (See Tips to Search for Parcel Lineage for guidance on how to identify parent parcels, and their Associated Plans). A "Subdivided Short Legal Description" search for Plan BCP10129 provides the following result:

  3. The Associated Plans for Lot 10, Plan BCP10129 denote plans BCP10129 (the Subdivision Plan), EPP138123 (an SRW Plan of Lot 10, Plan BCP10129) and EPP138124 (the plan that subdivided Lot 10). Generally, when a lot is subdivided or redefined, the subdivision or redefinition plan is denoted as an Associated Plan for the parent parcel. Continue to repeat the "Subdivided Short Legal Description" Search to further trace back prior parent parcels (See Tips to Search for Parcel Lineage) for their Associated Plans.

Expanded Unsubdivided Short Legal Description Selection

The "Expanded Unsubdivided Short Legal Description" selection is designed to provide a wide array of Associated Plans, that are associated with parcels that have been subdivided from the original unsubdivided ("primary") parcel. See Plan Search by Short Legal Description for more information.
