How to Complete an Identity Verification Check

What to expect

Identity Verification guides you through how to scan your ID and take a selfie. The prompts make it easy to complete the check in minutes.

You will have 24 hours before the request link expires.

What you need

You’ll need your smartphone and official government-issued ID that includes a photo of you:

  • Driver’s licence
  • Passport
  • Identity card
  • Residence permit

Identity Verification accepts IDs from Canada, the United States, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, China, Hong Kong, Singapore or Qatar.

Your legal professional may have specified the ID they want you to use. Please check the email for any notes from them.

Steps to complete an Identity Verification check

Open the Identity Verification email.

  • If you are on your smartphone, click the link in the email to start the verification process.
  • If you are on a computer, scan the QR code with your smartphone to start the process.

If the link has expired, contact the legal professional who sent you the request. They will be able to resend it.


Once in the Identity Verification app, please review the information about how your personal information will be collected and processed for the Identity Verification check. Click Verify My Identity if you consent.


Enter your first name, last name and country. Identity Verification accepts IDs from Canada, the United States, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, China, Hong Kong, Singapore or Qatar.


Select the government-issued ID you wish to use to confirm your identity: driver’s licence, passport, identity card and residence permit.


Click "Start Capture" to take a picture of the front of your ID.

a. For best results, use a blank white surface under your ID in a well-lit room. Lay the ID on a flat surface.
b. If this does not work, please take a photo of your ID and upload the image or try another mobile browser. See Troubleshooting Tips for more info.

If required, follow the steps to take a picture of the back of your ID.


Next follow the prompts to take a selfie or upload a photo. You may need to allow access to your camera.


If you are satisfied with the photo, click Next to scan a second ID or Finish if only one ID is required.


To scan a second ID, follows the steps described above.


Click Next to display a completion message. You can close your browser window.


A report will be sent to your legal professional with the results.
